                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing the week of June 3 through 11, 2000, as "National
     2     Fishing Week."

     3     WHEREAS, Fishing is an outdoor tradition rooted deeply in the
     4  history of this Commonwealth and its citizens; and
     5     WHEREAS, Some 1.3 million Pennsylvanians fish the waters of
     6  this Commonwealth, making 21 million fishing trips to those
     7  waters each year; and
     8     WHEREAS, The sport of fishing not only provides wholesome
     9  recreational opportunities but also contributes some $1.1
    10  billion of economic input to this Commonwealth; and
    11     WHEREAS, "National Fishing Week," June 3 through 11, 2000, is


     1  a cooperative program designed to promote recreational fishing
     2  and aquatic resource education in the United States; and
     3     WHEREAS, As part of the "National Fishing Week" observance
     4  this year, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission has
     5  declared Saturday, June 3, 2000, as Fish for Free Day; and
     6     WHEREAS, Fish for Free Days provide all Pennsylvanians with
     7  an opportunity to sample this Commonwealth's bountiful fishing
     8  opportunities; and
     9     WHEREAS, It is fitting and proper for Pennsylvanians to enjoy
    10  the wonders of fishing in this Commonwealth during "National
    11  Fishing Week"; therefore be it
    12     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
    13  week of June 3 through 11, 2000, as "National Fishing Week" and
    14  urge all Pennsylvanians to take advantage of the marvelous
    15  fishing opportunities available on the waters of this
    16  Commonwealth.
