A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of October 2015 as "Archives Month" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The historical documents and records of our nation
and our Commonwealth provide a crucial link to our past; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives recognizes the growing
importance of maintaining its own legislative, committee and
individual member records for posterity; and
WHEREAS, For more than 35 years, the House of Representatives
Archives has served as the official archival repository for the
records of elected members, committees and administrative
agencies of that body; and
WHEREAS, These historical records and documents, if not
professionally collected, cataloged and preserved by dedicated
archivists and staff and housed in a secure location, would be

lost to future generations of our citizens; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives Archives seeks to share
the valuable historical information and documents in its
holdings with researchers, legislators, staff members and the
public; and
WHEREAS, These records are accessible through many programs,
including the collection of House Committee records from 1971 to
the present, an interactive online biographical directory of
members dating from 1875 to the present and an extensive
collection of more than 125 oral history interviews with
legislators, which include first-hand accounts of life as a
legislator, providing scholars and citizens alike with the
ability to consult and utilize these historically valuable
resources; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
invaluable contribution of its archival repository and its
committed staff members; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
month of October 2015 as "Archives Month" in Pennsylvania; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge all
Pennsylvanians to visit their local archives, historical
repositories and libraries to learn more about the contributions
of historical documents and records to the discovery of the rich
heritage of this Commonwealth.
