A RESOLUTION

Designating the week of October 25 through 31, 2009, as

2

"National Massage Therapy Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, Governor Rendell approved and signed Act 118, the

4

Massage Therapy Law, on October 9, 2008; and

5

WHEREAS, This law established the Massage Therapy Board and

6

provided for the licensure of massage therapists in

7

Pennsylvania; and

8

WHEREAS, The American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA), a

9

58,000-member professional association for massage therapists,

10

educates consumers and professionals on the benefits of massage

11

therapy and assists people nationwide in locating qualified

12

massage therapists in their communities; and

13

WHEREAS, According to the AMTA, today there are 91,000

14

nationally certified massage therapists and more than 300

15

accredited massage schools and programs nationwide; and

WHEREAS, In the past five years an average of 32% of adult

2

Americans received a massage; and

3

WHEREAS, Almost one-third of these recipients did so to

4

improve their overall wellness, as well as to assist in the

5

treatment of pain management, injury rehabilitation and migraine

6

control; therefore be it

7

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the

8

week of October 25 through 31, 2009, as "National Massage

9

Therapy Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania.
