        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           DECEMBER 5, 2005

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Congratulating Cardinal William H. Keeler on the 50th
     2     anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood.

     3     WHEREAS, Cardinal William H. Keeler marked the 50th
     4  anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood with a
     5  Thanksgiving Mass attended by nearly 2,000 people on October 5,
     6  2005; and
     7     WHEREAS, Cardinal Keeler, the 14th Archbishop of Baltimore
     8  and a native of Lebanon, Pennsylvania, attended Lebanon Catholic
     9  High School and was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in
    10  Harrisburg in 1955; and
    11     WHEREAS, Cardinal Keeler was ordained Auxiliary Bishop of the
    12  Harrisburg Diocese in 1979 and served as Bishop of Harrisburg
    13  from 1983 to 1989; and

     1     WHEREAS, Cardinal Keeler, who was installed as Archbishop of
     2  Baltimore in 1989, has also served as president of the National
     3  Conference of Catholic Bishops and the United States Catholic
     4  Conference; and
     5     WHEREAS, Cardinal Keeler's various episcopacies have been
     6  keenly focused on ecumenism and interfaith dialogue; and
     7     WHEREAS, Cardinal Keeler has enriched the lives of not only
     8  countless Roman Catholics but people of all faiths with his
     9  visionary and innovative programs for youth, the poor and the
    10  elderly; therefore be it
    11     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate
    12  Cardinal William H. Keeler on the 50th anniversary of his
    13  ordination to the priesthood.
