        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           OCTOBER 6, 1998

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating November 18, 1998, and every November 18 thereafter
     2     as "Volunteer Firefighter, Emergency Medical Services, Rescue
     3     Squad and Fire Police Recognition Day" in Pennsylvania.

     4     WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters, emergency medical services,
     5  and rescue squad personnel and fire police risk their lives
     6  daily to protect the lives of the citizens of this Commonwealth;
     7  and
     8     WHEREAS, Individuals who provide volunteer emergency services
     9  have increasingly lost their lives in the performance of their
    10  unique duties; and
    11     WHEREAS, Societal changes have increased the dangers these


     1  individuals face daily in the performance of their duties as
     2  protectors of the citizens of this Commonwealth; and
     3     WHEREAS, The time these individuals give to protect the lives
     4  of the citizens of this Commonwealth represents time taken away
     5  from their family members who graciously allow them to perform
     6  their duties, acknowledging the significance of what they do and
     7  the character and caring nature of volunteer firefighters,
     8  emergency medical services and rescue squad personnel and fire
     9  police; therefore be it
    10     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize
    11  volunteer firefighters, emergency medical services and rescue
    12  squad personnel and fire police by extending thanks and
    13  appreciation to all who serve or have served the citizens of
    14  this Commonwealth with distinction on a voluntary basis; and be
    15  it further
    16     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate
    17  November 18, 1998, and every November 18 thereafter as
    18  "Volunteer Firefighter, Emergency Medical Services, Rescue Squad
    19  and Fire Police Recognition Day" in Pennsylvania; and be it
    20  further
    21     RESOLVED, That on this day all Statewide volunteer
    22  firefighters, emergency medical services and rescue squad
    23  personnel and fire police in this Commonwealth be honored at the
    24  Capitol as a sign of the heartfelt thanks of the Commonwealth's
    25  citizenry for their dedication, service and sacrifices,
    26  including the giving of their lives, in order to protect the
    27  citizens of this Commonwealth.
