INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, JUNE 8, 2000
A RESOLUTION 1 Honoring the United States Army for 225 years of service to this 2 country. 3 WHEREAS, The history of this nation reflects the memories of 4 the men and women who have endeavored to preserve our freedom 5 and whose task, while indescribable in terms of sacrifice and 6 commitment, stands as a lasting tribute to all that we enjoy as 7 citizens of the United States; and 8 WHEREAS, On June 14, 2000, the United States Army is 9 celebrating 225 years of service to the nation, having started
1 in this Commonwealth on June 14, 1775, at the Second Continental 2 Congress in Philadelphia; and 3 WHEREAS, This Commonwealth raised 13 regiments to serve in 4 the Continental Army. Most of these men served as a unit under 5 General Anthony Wayne of Chester County. The unit fought in 6 nearly every major battle of the Revolutionary War and was known 7 as "The Pennsylvania Line"; and 8 WHEREAS, The total number of Army veterans from this 9 Commonwealth approximately totals 13 million dating back to 10 1775, of whom 25,000 have given their lives in service to our 11 country; and 12 WHEREAS, The public's consciousness of the Army's 13 contribution to this Commonwealth and the nation should be 14 raised; and 15 WHEREAS, All veterans, soldiers and citizens are encouraged 16 to participate in this honorable occasion and commemorate the 17 sacrifices that were made to ensure the freedom of all citizens; 18 and 19 WHEREAS, This day should be forever immortalized in this 20 nation's long history in recognition of all soldiers, past and 21 present, who are willing to give their lives for the sake of 22 freedom; therefore be it 23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate the 24 United States Army and affirmatively state that it has 25 contributed to the betterment of all the citizens of this 26 nation.
