A RESOLUTION
1 Honoring Coach Russ Rose and the members of the 2007
2 Pennsylvania State University Nittany Lions Women's
3 Volleyball Team and congratulating them on their victory at
4 the 2007 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship
5 game.
6 WHEREAS, On Saturday, December 15, 2007, the number one
7 ranked women's volleyball team from The Pennsylvania State
8 University concluded a magnificent season in a dramatic fashion
9 by capturing the 2007 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball
10 Championship in the finals in Sacramento, California; and
11 WHEREAS, The success of the team and national victory
12 depended upon the talent and commitment of the 17 team members
13 and the dedication of Head Coach Russ Rose and Assistant Coaches
14 Dennis Hohenshelt and Salima Rockwell; and
15 WHEREAS, The unwavering support of Head Coach Russ Rose, the
16 2007 American Volleyball Coaches Association National Coach of
17 the Year and Hall of Fame inductee, inspired the team to achieve
1 the championship trophy for the second time in eight years; and
2 WHEREAS, The determined Nittany Lions went undefeated in the
3 Big Ten Conference and won the fifth consecutive Big Ten
4 Championship, and sophomore Megan Hodge was voted Most
5 Outstanding Player in the championship game; and
6 WHEREAS, Cocaptains Melissa Walbridge, Christa Harmotto and
7 Nicole Fawcett assisted the team in 34 victories; and
8 WHEREAS, This season concludes the careers of five
9 outstanding senior team members; and
10 WHEREAS, Christa Harmotto was voted Big Ten Player of the
11 Year; and
12 WHEREAS, The Nittany Lions team consists of five All-
13 Americans, including Melissa Walbridge. The other four, named
14 All-American this year, are first-teamers Megan Hodge, Nicole
15 Fawcett, Christa Harmotto and Alisha Glass on the second team;
16 and
17 WHEREAS, Team members, under the stewardship of Head Coach
18 Russ Rose and Assistant Coaches Dennis Hohenshelt and Salima
19 Rockwell, represent the finest example of student athletes as
20 they have again brought positive national attention to The
21 Pennsylvania State University, and they continue to serve as
22 exemplary models for athletes of both genders; therefore be it
23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives extend its
24 congratulations to Coach Russ Rose and The Pennsylvania State
25 University Women's Volleyball Team on their second NCAA Women's
26 Volleyball Championship and completion of another outstanding
27 season and wish them continued success in the future years; and
28 be it further
29 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
30 The Pennsylvania State University, University Park PA.
