INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, JANUARY 14, 2008
A RESOLUTION 1 Declaring the week of January 27 through February 2, 2008, as 2 "Catholic Schools Week" in this Commonwealth. 3 WHEREAS, Catholic schools in this Commonwealth are 4 celebrating "Catholic Schools Week" from January 27 through 5 February 2, 2008; and 6 WHEREAS, Catholic elementary and secondary schools, educating 7 183,628 students annually, save State and local taxpayers more 8 than $1 billion each year; and 9 WHEREAS, The theme for "Catholic Schools Week" this year is 10 "Catholic Schools Light the Way"; and 11 WHEREAS, The theme focuses on the leadership that Catholic 12 schools provide to our nation, producing graduates who light the
1 way to a brighter future for all humankind; and 2 WHEREAS, Catholic schools instill in young people a strong 3 foundation of values, self-esteem, self-confidence and 4 leadership skills; and 5 WHEREAS, Catholic schools, in providing young people with 6 solid values and academic skills needed in becoming responsible 7 citizens of this Commonwealth and nation, have a dropout rate of 8 less than 3% and a postgraduate higher education enrollment rate 9 of 80%; therefore be it 10 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare the week 11 of January 27 through February 2, 2008, as "Catholic Schools 12 Week" in this Commonwealth and express congratulations and 13 appreciation to Catholic elementary and secondary schools across 14 this Commonwealth on the occasion of "Catholic Schools Week" in 15 2008.
