        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           NOVEMBER 17, 1998

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Observing the week of November 22 through 28, 1998, as "National
     2     Family Week" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, As individuals, we find in our families a sense of
     4  identity, purpose and security; as a nation, we find in our
     5  families the vision and strength we need to remain a truly free
     6  and just society; and
     7     WHEREAS, A family is a group of individuals related by blood,
     8  marriage or adoption as well as a community of persons united by
     9  their love and commitment to one another, and it is through
    10  family life that our nation's most cherished values and
    11  traditions are passed from one generation to the next; and
    12     WHEREAS, Through our experiences as members of a family, we


     1  learn important lessons about love and faith, duty and fidelity,
     2  personal responsibility and concern for others; and
     3     WHEREAS, Because these lessons are conveyed to the community
     4  at large and because the family gives us a model of human
     5  relationships after which all other social institutions are
     6  fashioned, the strength and integrity of the family are vital to
     7  our well-being as a nation and as a State; and
     8     WHEREAS, Families are the fundamental cornerstone of human
     9  society, providing models for caring from birth through the
    10  aging years and inspiring celebration and renewal; and
    11     WHEREAS, Families need and deserve recognition, encouragement
    12  and support for the daily miracles they perform; and
    13     WHEREAS, Each of our communities has the ability to empower
    14  and enhance family strength and potential; and
    15     WHEREAS, Thanksgiving week is a traditional time to recognize
    16  the important role of families in strengthening our communities;
    17  therefore be it;
    18     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives observe the week
    19  of November 22 through 28, 1998, as "National Family Week" in
    20  Pennsylvania and call upon all citizens, government agencies,
    21  public and private institutions and businesses to mark this week
    22  with appropriate ceremonies and programs in appreciation of our
    23  communities' families.
