        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           JANUARY 30, 2006

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., on the
     2     occasion of its 100th anniversary.

     3     WHEREAS, The first collegiate fraternity for African-American
     4  men was founded December 4, 1906, at Cornell University in
     5  Ithaca, New York; and
     6     WHEREAS, The founders of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, referred
     7  to as "The Jewels," are Henry A. Callis, Charles H. Chapman,
     8  Eugene K. Jones, George B. Kelley, Nathaniel A. Murray, Robert
     9  H. Ogle and Vertner W. Tandy; and
    10     WHEREAS, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity has initiated 275,000 men
    11  since its founding in 1906; and
    12     WHEREAS, The fraternity has been interracial since 1945; and
    13     WHEREAS, There are now 353 college chapters on campuses and
    14  339 alumni chapters in 45 states, including the District of
    15  Columbia, the West Indies, Europe, Africa, Asia, Canada and the


     1  Virgin Islands; therefore be it
     2     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize Alpha
     3  Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., on the occasion of its 100th
     4  anniversary and extend best wishes for continued success in the
     5  future.
