INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, JANUARY 23, 2008
A RESOLUTION 1 Declaring the week of January 27 through February 2, 2008, as 2 "Catholic Schools Week" in this Commonwealth. 3 WHEREAS, Catholic schools in this Commonwealth are 4 celebrating "Catholic Schools Week" from January 27 through 5 February 2, 2008; and 6 WHEREAS, Catholic elementary and secondary schools, educating 7 183,628 students annually, save State and local taxpayers more 8 than $1 billion each year; and 9 WHEREAS, The theme for "Catholic Schools Week" this year is 10 "Catholic Schools Light the Way"; and
1 WHEREAS, The theme focuses on the leadership that Catholic 2 schools provide to our nation, producing graduates who light the 3 way to a brighter future for all humankind; and 4 WHEREAS, Catholic schools instill in young people a strong 5 foundation of values, self-esteem, self-confidence and 6 leadership skills; and 7 WHEREAS, Catholic schools, in providing young people with 8 solid values and academic skills needed in becoming responsible 9 citizens of this Commonwealth and nation, have a dropout rate of 10 less than 3% and a postgraduate higher education enrollment rate 11 of 80%; therefore be it 12 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare the week 13 of January 27 through February 2, 2008, as "Catholic Schools 14 Week" in this Commonwealth and express congratulations and 15 appreciation to Catholic elementary and secondary schools across 16 this Commonwealth on the occasion of "Catholic Schools Week" in 17 2008.
