INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, NOVEMBER 17, 1998
A RESOLUTION 1 Commending the City of Dubois and its volunteer fire department 2 for being one of 28 cities in the nation to receive a number 3 one ranking for public fire protection. 4 WHEREAS, Quality fire protection services are the cornerstone 5 of every safe, healthy and prosperous community in this 6 Commonwealth and across the nation; and 7 WHEREAS, Municipalities rely on the service and commitment of 8 paid or volunteer fire departments to ensure the safety of their 9 citizens and the protection of their property; and 10 WHEREAS, The Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO), the 11 nation's leading supplier of statistical and actuarial 12 information regarding property and casualty insurance, has 13 conducted its annual review of fire safety standards and public 14 fire protection services in municipalities across the country; 15 and 16 WHEREAS, ISO considers several variables in its review of 17 municipal fire safety, including how the fire department is 18 listed in the telephone book, how companies are dispatched,
1 where hydrants are placed, how supplies and equipment are used 2 and how personnel perform; and 3 WHEREAS, ISO's findings are used to rank municipal insurance 4 rates on a scale of 1 to 10, with a number one ranking having 5 the lowest and best possible insurance rates; and 6 WHEREAS, Only 28 cities from across the country received a 7 number one ranking as a result of the ISO review; and 8 WHEREAS, Only two cities among those receiving a number one 9 ranking are served by volunteer fire departments; and 10 WHEREAS, Only one city in Pennsylvania was awarded a number 11 one ranking from ISO; and 12 WHEREAS, The City of Dubois and its volunteer fire department 13 in Clearfield County are the recipients of Pennsylvania's only 14 number one ranking for public fire protection; therefore be it 15 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate and 16 pay tribute to the City of Dubois and its volunteer fire 17 department for receiving this notable recognition; and be it 18 further 19 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the 20 outstanding efforts and superior services of the Dubois 21 Volunteer Fire Department by extending heartfelt appreciation to 22 all the men and women who have served with distinction on a 23 volunteer basis.
