        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           FEBRUARY 10, 2004

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the month of March 2004 as "Multiple Sclerosis
     2     Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Multiple sclerosis is a chronic and often disabling
     4  disease of the central nervous system which often first appears
     5  in people between the ages of 20 and 40, with lifelong physical
     6  and emotional effects; and
     7     WHEREAS, Multiple sclerosis is twice as common in women as in
     8  men; and
     9     WHEREAS, An estimated 250,000 to 350,000 individuals suffer


     1  from multiple sclerosis nationally; and
     2     WHEREAS, Symptoms of multiple sclerosis can be mild, such as
     3  numbness in the limbs, or severe, such as paralysis or loss of
     4  vision; and
     5     WHEREAS, The progress, severity and specific symptoms of
     6  multiple sclerosis in any one person cannot yet be predicted;
     7  therefore be it
     8     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
     9  month of March 2004 as "Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month" in
    10  Pennsylvania.
