INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, MAY 6, 2002
A RESOLUTION 1 Observing the week of May 18 through 24, 2002, as "National Safe 2 Boating Week" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Each year 2.5 million people participate in boating 4 in this Commonwealth; and 5 WHEREAS, Each year an average of 12.5 people lose their lives 6 in boating accidents; and 7 WHEREAS, Paddling on Pennsylvania's waterways is becoming 8 more popular; and 9 WHEREAS, In 2001, nine paddlers died in accidents; and 10 WHEREAS, Use of United States Coast Guard-approved life
1 jackets and participation in boating safety courses have been 2 shown to save lives and minimize the risks associated with 3 boating and water sports; therefore be it 4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives observe the week 5 of May 18 through 24, 2002, as "National Safe Boating Week" in 6 Pennsylvania and encourage all boaters to increase their 7 knowledge of boating and use United States Coast Guard-approved 8 life jackets at all times.
