        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MAY 6, 2002

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Proclaiming the week of June 9 through 15, 2002, as "State
     2     Veterans' Home Week."

     3     WHEREAS, The history of our nation reflects the memories of
     4  the men and women who have endeavored to preserve our freedom,
     5  whose task, while indescribable in terms of sacrifice and
     6  commitment, stands as a lasting tribute to the ideals we value
     7  as Americans; and
     8     WHEREAS, These heroes, every man and woman, relinquished a
     9  part of their lives in defense of these United States, and their
    10  struggles will never be forgotten, overlooked or underestimated;

     1  and
     2     WHEREAS, Those who served our country in the United States
     3  Armed Forces forever carry the virtues of liberty, freedom and
     4  the right to independence, and we, as citizens of the United
     5  States of America, owe an inexpressible debt to these men and
     6  women, and we take time here to thank each of these American
     7  heroes, past and present; and
     8     WHEREAS, The Commonwealth has, for more than 100 years,
     9  provided a home for these distinguished veterans in need; and
    10     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania will continue to honor its veterans by
    11  providing them with support; therefore be it
    12     RESOLVED, That, in recognition of our veterans and veterans'
    13  homes, the House of Representatives proclaim June 9 through 15,
    14  2002, as "State Veterans' Home Week" and encourage all citizens
    15  to visit a State-supported home in Erie, Hollidaysburg, Spring
    16  City, Scranton or Pittsburgh and thank these veterans and the
    17  personnel who serve them.
