INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, SEPTEMBER 27, 2000
A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing September 15 through October 15, 2000, as "Hispanic 2 Heritage Month" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, "Hispanic Heritage Month" is being celebrated 4 throughout this Commonwealth and our nation from September 15 5 through October 15, 2000; and 6 WHEREAS, Over 300,000 people of Spanish and Latin-American 7 descent reside in this Commonwealth; and 8 WHEREAS, This ever-increasing number of Latino professionals, 9 artists, businessmen and businesswomen, public servants and 10 leaders are making valuable contributions to this State; and 11 WHEREAS, There are over 30 million Latinos living in the
1 United States, a number expected to increase to 41.5 million by 2 the year 2010; and 3 WHEREAS, Hundreds of Latinos are converging in Harrisburg, 4 Pennsylvania, from October 28 through 30, 2000, with the 5 Pennsylvania Statewide Latino Coalition for the fifth annual 6 conference; therefore be it 7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize 8 September 15 through October 15, 2000, as "Hispanic Heritage 9 Month" in Pennsylvania; and be it further 10 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives pay a respectful 11 tribute to the people of Hispanic heritage in this Commonwealth 12 during "Hispanic Heritage Month" by proudly recognizing their 13 contributions to the political, industrial, commercial, 14 educational and artistic worlds of this Commonwealth and 15 encourage all people to celebrate the richness of diversity 16 portrayed by the Hispanic communities; and be it further 17 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to 18 the Pennsylvania Statewide Latino Coalition.
