A RESOLUTION
1Declaring the month of January 2014 as "Learn a Snow Sport
2Month" in Pennsylvania.
3WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's geography is the backdrop for outdoor
4recreation; and
5WHEREAS, Tens of thousands of winter enthusiasts migrate to
6the Pennsylvania mountains every week to ski and snowboard on
7trails that offer cruising comfort in a majestic setting or the
8excitement of a pulse-pounding challenge on a downhill course;
9and
10WHEREAS, There are more than 21 ski resorts in all regions of
11this State from the Endless Mountains to the Philadelphia
12suburbs, central Pennsylvania from the Maryland to the New York
13borders and throughout the Alleghenies; and
14WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania ski resorts have a significant
15economic impact on the communities they are located in and the
16Commonwealth as a whole; and
1WHEREAS, Participating in a snow sport provides an
2opportunity for exercise and friendship that will last a
3lifetime; and
4WHEREAS, Learn a Snow Sport Month encourages children and
5adults to learn by taking lessons from professional instructors;
6and
7WHEREAS, Ski and snowboard areas throughout the United States
8offer free and reasonably priced turn-key lesson programs during
9the month of January as part of this initiative; and
10WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Ski Areas Association, along with
1133 other states, the SnowSports Industries America (SIA), the
12Professional Ski Instructors of America-American Association of
13Snowboard Instructors (PSIA-AASI), National Ski Areas
14Association (NSAA) and the National Ski Patrol have united to
15offer an affordable Learn a Snow Sport program that will open
16the door to the wonderful world of skiing and snowboarding for
17many winter enthusiasts throughout the entire season; and
18WHEREAS, We appreciate and thank the dedicated individuals
19who work tirelessly to uphold Pennsylvania's outdoor recreation
20and help maintain strong winter tourism in Pennsylvania;
21therefore be it
22RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare the month
23of January 2014 as "Learn a Snow Sport Month" in Pennsylvania;
24and be it further
25RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the
26Pennsylvania Ski Areas Association, P.O. Box 27, White Haven, Pa
