INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, OCTOBER 3, 2000
A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing Fallingwater as the Pennsylvania Historical and 2 Museum Commission's designated 2000 Commonwealth Treasure. 3 WHEREAS, Fallingwater, located in Mill Run, Fayette County, 4 has been recognized nationally and internationally as one of the 5 world's most important and admired residential buildings; and 6 WHEREAS, Fallingwater, designed by the pioneering and eminent 7 architect Frank Lloyd Wright, is considered by many 8 architectural scholars as an example of Wright's finest work of 9 integration of structure into the natural landscape; and 10 WHEREAS, Fallingwater, built in 1936, is a historic building 11 that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and 12 holds National Landmark status; and 13 WHEREAS, The contents and grounds of Fallingwater are open to 14 the public, and Fallingwater is a major tourist site in this 15 Commonwealth, attracting 130,000 visitors per year; and 16 WHEREAS, Fallingwater was originally the weekend home of the 17 Edgar J. Kaufman family; and
1 WHEREAS, Fallingwater was entrusted to the Western 2 Pennsylvania Conservancy in 1963 and presently serves as an 3 educational facility and world-class museum; therefore be it 4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize 5 Fallingwater as the 2000 Commonwealth Treasure as designated by 6 the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission and further 7 recognize Fallingwater as a truly outstanding historically 8 significant site worthy of this designation to people throughout 9 our Commonwealth and the world.
