A RESOLUTION
1 Honoring the Northeastern Pennsylvania Region of the American
2 Red Cross Blood Services on the occasion of its 50th
3 anniversary.
4 WHEREAS, The Northeastern Pennsylvania Region of the American
5 Red Cross Blood Services is one of 37 American Red Cross blood
6 centers whose mission is to fulfill the needs of the American
7 people for the safest, most reliable, most cost-effective blood,
8 plasma and tissue services through voluntary donations; and
9 WHEREAS, The Northeastern Pennsylvania Region of the American
10 Red Cross Blood Services is a nonprofit blood collection,
11 processing, testing and distribution center that serves patients
12 in 42 hospitals; and
13 WHEREAS, The Northeastern Pennsylvania Region of the American
14 Red Cross Blood Services consists of 24 chapters and serves 20
15 counties in northeast and central Pennsylvania and three
16 counties in New York; and
1 WHEREAS, The Northeastern Pennsylvania Region of the American
2 Red Cross Blood Services was formed in 1950 and its original
3 facility was dedicated in March of that year; and
4 WHEREAS, In 1979 the Northeastern Pennsylvania Region of the
5 American Red Cross Blood Services moved to a new facility in
6 Luzerne County, which was enlarged in 1988; and
7 WHEREAS, The Northeastern Pennsylvania Region of the American
8 Red Cross Blood Services presently serves 1.5 million people;
9 therefore be it
10 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the
11 Northeastern Pennsylvania Region of the American Red Cross Blood
12 Services on the occasion of its 50th anniversary and urge all
13 Pennsylvanians to recognize the benefits of being a blood donor
14 and the countless lives that are saved every day through the
15 selfless act of donating blood.
