INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, JUNE 5, 2002
A RESOLUTION 1 Declaring September 21, 2002, as "Myositis Awareness Day" in 2 Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Myositis is an incurable, rare and debilitating 4 neuromuscular disease; and 5 WHEREAS, Myositis refers to several different illnesses, 6 including polymyositis, dermatomyositis and inclusion body 7 myositis; and 8 WHEREAS, All forms of myositis involve chronic muscle 9 inflammation; and 10 WHEREAS, This muscle inflammation almost always results in 11 weakness and may result in swelling and pain of the muscles; and 12 WHEREAS, Myositis can affect many parts of the body, 13 including the joints, heart, lungs, intestines and skin; and
1 WHEREAS, The causes of the various forms of myositis are 2 unknown, but whatever triggers myositis also results in 3 abnormalities in the immune system; and 4 WHEREAS, Increased public awareness of myositis will 5 encourage research and result in earlier diagnosis and more 6 effective treatment of this disease; therefore be it 7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare September 8 21, 2002, as "Myositis Awareness Day" in Pennsylvania and 9 encourage residents of this Commonwealth to support the search 10 for a cause and cure for this chronic and debilitating disease.
