           SOLOBAY, MUNDY, FREEMAN, MANDERINO, EACHUS, VITALI, MARKOSEK,
           MICHLOVIC, BELFANTI, JOSEPHS, WALKO, READSHAW, DeWEESE, COY,
           SCRIMENTI, TIGUE, SANTONI, FRANKEL, SURRA AND DeLUCA,

        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           JUNE 5, 2002

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Congratulating the community of Coral in Center Township,
     2     Indiana County, Pennsylvania, on the occasion of its 100th
     3     anniversary.

     4     WHEREAS, The community originated in the 1890s as a company
     5  town named Oklahoma, sheltering employees of the Indiana Coal
     6  and Coke Company, with six houses and 24 coke ovens; and
     7     WHEREAS, In 1902, according to local lore, a prospector
     8  observed that the coal and coke in the area would become as
     9  valuable as coral, and the community embraced a new name, Coral;
    10  and
    11     WHEREAS, By late 1903, Coral comprised 150 company houses and
    12  300 ovens; and
    13     WHEREAS, Johnstown Construction Company prefabricated the
    14  single homes erected there, the first of their kind in Indiana
    15  County; and
    16     WHEREAS, In the ensuing decades, Coral has earned recognition


     1  as a center of social and recreational activities attracting
     2  people from surrounding communities; therefore be it
     3     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate the
     4  community of Coral on the occasion of its 100th anniversary.
