           KENNEY, WATERS, LEDERER, KELLER, BUTKOVITZ, DONATUCCI,
           ROEBUCK, LUCYK, O'BRIEN, STEELMAN, RAMOS, JAMES, EVANS,
           OLIVER, WASHINGTON, MYERS, J. TAYLOR, THOMAS AND M. COHEN,

        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON RULES, OCTOBER 5, 2000

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Urging municipalities throughout this Commonwealth to adopt
     2     ordinances to prohibit persons from walking in public areas
     3     and at public occasions while carrying a snake.

     4     WHEREAS, Snakes are increasing in popularity as pets; and
     5     WHEREAS, Owners of pet snakes need to exercise due diligence
     6  to protect the public from these animals, because they cannot be
     7  domesticated; and
     8     WHEREAS, Increasingly, owners of pet snakes have been
     9  observed in public places and at public occasions such as fairs
    10  and festivals "wearing" their snakes; and
    11     WHEREAS, These animals are uncontrolled in these situations,
    12  capable of causing injury, damage and fear; therefore be it
    13     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge the
    14  municipalities of this Commonwealth to adopt ordinances to
    15  prohibit persons from walking in public areas and at public
    16  occasions while carrying a snake.
