                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 42 (Judiciary and Judicial Procedure) of the
     2     Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, further providing for
     3     penalties for certain indirect criminal contempts.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 4136(b) of Title 42 of the Pennsylvania
     7  Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
     8  § 4136.  Rights of persons charged with certain indirect
     9           criminal contempts.

    11     (b)  Punishment.--Except as otherwise provided in this title
    12  or by statute hereafter enacted, punishment for a contempt
    13  specified in subsection (a) may be by fine not exceeding [$100]
    14  $2,500 or by imprisonment not exceeding [15] 45 days in the jail
    15  of the county where the court is sitting, or both, in the
    16  discretion of the court. Where a person is committed to jail for
    17  the nonpayment of such a fine, he shall be discharged at the
    18  expiration of [15] 45 days, but where he is also committed for a

     1  definite time, the [15] 45 days shall be computed from the
     2  expiration of the definite time.
     3     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
