        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MARCH 15, 2004

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing 125 years of service by the 28th Infantry Division,
     2     referred to as the Keystone Division, during the year 2004.

     3     WHEREAS, On March 12, 2004, the 28th Infantry Division is
     4  observing the 125th anniversary of its founding; and
     5     WHEREAS, The 28th Infantry Division is the oldest division in
     6  the armed forces of the United States; and
     7     WHEREAS, The 28th Infantry Division was organized as a single
     8  division in 1879 but dates back to 1747; and
     9     WHEREAS, The 28th Infantry Division arrived in France on May
    10  18, 1918, and was committed to battle on July 14, 1918, from
    11  which day until the Armistice it knew no rest; and

     1     WHEREAS, The 28th Infantry Division remained active during
     2  World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and Operation
     3  Desert Storm; and
     4     WHEREAS, The 28th Infantry Division has served many years of
     5  State duty in response to natural disasters, snow emergencies
     6  and events such as the oil spill in the Monongahela River in
     7  Pittsburgh; and
     8     WHEREAS, Members of the 28th Infantry Division are currently
     9  serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom in places such as Bosnia,
    10  Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq; and
    11     WHEREAS, Division members are a special kind of Pennsylvanian
    12  who leave their homes, jobs and families whenever our State or
    13  nation faces danger from enemies or disaster; therefore be it
    14     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize 125
    15  years of extraordinary service by the 28th Infantry Division by
    16  setting aside the year 2004 for recognition and appreciation of
    17  the division and its past and current members.
