        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MARCH 15, 2004

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the week of April 25 through 30, 2004, as "Animal
     2     Abuse Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Abuse of animals is a problem in every community of
     4  this Commonwealth and is not always understood to be the serious
     5  issue that it is; and
     6     WHEREAS, Where there is animal cruelty, there is likely to be
     7  some other form of violence such as spousal abuse, child abuse
     8  or elder abuse; and
     9     WHEREAS, People who abuse animals are far more likely to
    10  abuse other people; and
    11     WHEREAS, Greater awareness of animal abuse and its causal
    12  relationship to abuse of humans helps to make neighborhoods
    13  safer places for animals and people alike; therefore be it


     1     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
     2  week of April 25 through 30, 2004, as "Animal Abuse Awareness
     3  Week" in Pennsylvania.
