        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON TRANSPORTATION, FEBRUARY 28, 2008

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Memorializing the United States Secretary of Transportation to
     2     desist from allowing Mexican trucks and drivers into the
     3     United States.

     4     WHEREAS, Federal law, enacted by the Congress of the United
     5  States effective December 26, 2007, prohibits funding for the
     6  pilot program endorsed by President George W. Bush to allow
     7  Mexican trucks to cross the southern border and travel into the
     8  United States; and
     9     WHEREAS, Without this funding, the pilot program is, in
    10  effect, prohibited by Congress; and
    11     WHEREAS, The Senate of the United States voted down the pilot
    12  program's funding by 75 to 23 and the vote in the House of
    13  Representatives of the United States was 411 to 3 against the
    14  funding; and
    15     WHEREAS, In spite of Congress's actions, the Secretary of


     1  Transportation continues to allow Mexican trucks and drivers to
     2  cross the Mexican-United States border; and
     3     WHEREAS, The Secretary of Transportation's action elevates
     4  the danger of entry into the United States by terrorists and
     5  diminishes the safety of United States motorists on our
     6  highways; therefore be it
     7     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
     8  Commonwealth of Pennsylvania memorialize the United States
     9  Secretary of Transportation to desist from allowing Mexican
    10  trucks and drivers into the United States; and be it further
    11     RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
    12  the Honorable Mary Peters, Secretary of Transportation, United
    13  States Department of Transportation, 1200 New Jersey Avenue SE,
    14  Washington, DC 20590.
