A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing the Freedom and Heritage Flag of the former Republic 2 of Vietnam as the official symbol of this Commonwealth's 3 Vietnamese-American community. 4 WHEREAS, The end of the Vietnam Conflict produced an exodus 5 of more than two million Vietnamese people who sought political 6 asylum in the free world and bravely risked their lives to live 7 under the principles of democracy; and 8 WHEREAS, There are a significant number of Vietnamese 9 Americans who have chosen to make this Commonwealth their home; 10 and 11 WHEREAS, This Commonwealth's Vietnamese-American community 12 has made substantial contributions to the cultural, religious, 13 political and business life of Pennsylvania; and 14 WHEREAS, The vast majority of this Commonwealth's Vietnamese- 15 American citizens embrace the yellow and three red-striped flag 16 as the Freedom and Heritage Flag of the Vietnamese-American 17 community; and
1 WHEREAS, The Freedom and Heritage Flag of the former Republic 2 of Vietnam is symbolic of the Vietnamese people, freedom, human 3 rights, democracy and those who sacrificed their lives in order 4 to defend these essential societal principles; and 5 WHEREAS, Vietnamese Americans of this Commonwealth proudly 6 raise this Freedom and Heritage Flag; therefore be it 7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives formally 8 recognize the Freedom and Heritage Flag as the official symbol 9 of this Commonwealth's Vietnamese-American community and support 10 the efforts of the Vietnamese-American community to promote 11 freedom and democracy in Vietnam.
