INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, JUNE 25, 2002
A RESOLUTION 1 Designating the week of September 2 through 6, 2002, as "Payroll 2 Week 2002" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, The American Payroll Association and its 20,500 4 members have launched a nationwide public awareness campaign in 5 tribute to the more than 135 million people who work in the 6 United States and the payroll professionals who support them by 7 paying wages, reporting workers earnings and withholding Federal 8 employment taxes; and 9 WHEREAS, Payroll professionals are responsible for 10 withholding income taxes from nearly 6 million individuals who 11 work in our State, and they play a major role in collecting 12 State individual income tax revenues; and 13 WHEREAS, Taxes withheld from workers' pay support important 14 civic projects, including roads, schools and parks; and
1 WHEREAS, Payroll professionals provide information for child 2 support enforcement, carry out tax withholding, reporting and 3 depositing and direct payments into unemployment and workers' 4 compensation insurance programs; and 5 WHEREAS, Payroll professionals ensure the economic security 6 of American families by helping to identify noncustodial parents 7 and making sure these parents comply with their child support 8 mandates; and 9 WHEREAS, Payroll professionals have become increasingly 10 proactive in educating the business community and the public at 11 large about payroll tax withholding systems; and 12 WHEREAS, Payroll professionals meet regularly with Federal 13 and State tax officials to discuss improving compliance with 14 government procedures and achieving compliance at less cost to 15 government and business; and 16 WHEREAS, The week of September 2 through 6, 2000, has been 17 proclaimed "National Payroll Week 2002"; therefore be it 18 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the 19 week of September 2 through 6, 2002, as "Payroll Week 2002" in 20 Pennsylvania.
