AN ACT 1 Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An 2 act relating to the public school system, including certain 3 provisions applicable as well to private and parochial 4 schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the 5 laws relating thereto," providing for tuition grant 6 alternative. 7 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 8 hereby enacts as follows: 9 Section 1. The act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known 10 as the Public School Code of 1949, is amended by adding a 11 section to read: 12 Section 1310.1. Tuition Grant Alternative.--(a) In any 13 school year in which a collective bargaining agreement, as 14 negotiated under this act and other relevant laws, is not 15 adopted by the school board and the employe organization, as 16 defined in section 1101-A, by August 15, students entering their 17 senior year shall be eligible for grants which the district 18 shall pay for enrollment in any school in which a student shall 19 be deemed to meet the compulsory attendance requirements of this
1 act and which does not discriminate on the basis of race in its 2 admission or other educational policies. The grant shall be the 3 lesser of the tuition of the school in which the student enrolls 4 or the tuition rate of the school district of residence as 5 established under section 2561. 6 (b) A parent of each eligible student shall make application 7 to the district for the grant, on a form developed by the 8 district, and submit a verified statement of the educational 9 institution or school district which will provide the 10 educational program attesting to the enrollment of the student 11 and the tuition charged to the student. 12 (c) A grant shall be made in the form of a certificate 13 delivered to the parent which shall be used solely for the 14 purpose of paying tuition at the educational institution or 15 school district designated in the grant application. The 16 educational institution or school district, or the designated 17 agent of either, may then present the grant certificate for 18 redemption. 19 Section 2.
