A RESOLUTION
1 Designating the month of April 2008 as "Financial Literacy
2 Month" in Pennsylvania.
3 WHEREAS, Financial literacy is critically needed to achieve
4 personal financial goals which allow all Pennsylvanians to
5 attain the highest quality of life available in this good
6 Commonwealth; and
7 WHEREAS, Many young people fail in the management of their
8 first consumer credit experience, establish bad financial
9 management habits and stumble financially, learning by trial and
10 error; and
11 WHEREAS, Personal financial practices and habits are formed
12 during our childhood years; and
13 WHEREAS, Increasing the financial literacy of all economic
1 and ethnic groups has proven successful in improving attitudes,
2 leading to improved decision making, and providing a more secure
3 future for individuals who have been educated in financial
4 literacy and their families; and
5 WHEREAS, Financial literacy training may easily be integrated
6 as a valuable component for elementary and secondary schools,
7 colleges and universities, community groups and citizen town
8 hall meetings; and
9 WHEREAS, This endeavor is worthy of support and cooperation
10 for the benefit of the citizens and consumers of this
11 Commonwealth and protection of their financial future; therefore
12 be it
13 RESOLVED, That legislators, employers, schools, service
14 groups, community organizations, libraries, financial
15 institutions and the media be encouraged to provide
16 opportunities for financial literacy education for all
17 Pennsylvanians through a variety of means, including
18 collaboration with members of the Pennsylvania Institute of
19 Certified Public Accountants, in order to provide outreach and
20 education; and be it further
21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives, in special
22 recognition of the importance of increasing financial literacy
23 among Pennsylvania's children and youths, designate the month of
24 April 2008 as "Financial Literacy Month" in Pennsylvania.
