| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the founding of Greater |
2 | Philadelphia Health Action, Inc. |
3 | WHEREAS, For 40 years, Greater Philadelphia Health Action, |
4 | Inc., has been a leader in providing health services and |
5 | treatment to the disadvantaged, uninsured and medically |
6 | underserved; and |
7 | WHEREAS, South Philadelphia Health Action, later renamed |
8 | Greater Philadelphia Health Action, Inc., was founded in 1970 by |
9 | the late Carl Moore and other local South Philadelphia community |
10 | activists as a nonprofit corporation for the purpose of |
11 | providing basic health care services to the surrounding |
12 | community; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Over the last 40 years, the mission of Greater |
14 | Philadelphia Health Action, Inc., has expanded to provide |
15 | quality, comprehensive primary and behavioral health care, |

1 | health education and child development services to thousands of |
2 | patients throughout the Delaware Valley regardless of their |
3 | ability to pay; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Greater Philadelphia Health Action, Inc., was one of |
5 | the first managed care programs in the city and is now the |
6 | largest nonhospital health care provider in the region; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Since its inception in 1970, Greater Philadelphia |
8 | Health Action, Inc., has utilized Federal and city grants to |
9 | launch various initiatives, which include reducing the infant |
10 | mortality rate as well as rates of hypertension and diabetes; |
11 | and |
12 | WHEREAS, Greater Philadelphia Health Action, Inc., has |
13 | obtained accreditation through the Joint Commission on |
14 | Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations for its facilities, |
15 | ensuring a high level of safety and quality; and |
16 | WHEREAS, Greater Philadelphia Health Action, Inc., has |
17 | expanded to seven full-service health centers, two behavioral |
18 | health centers, a child development center, four dental |
19 | locations and a pharmacy, demonstrating its commitment to health |
20 | care that is centered on the whole person; and |
21 | WHEREAS, More than 80,000 insured, uninsured and underinsured |
22 | patients throughout the Delaware Valley have benefited from the |
23 | services provided by Greater Philadelphia Health Action, Inc.; |
24 | therefore be it |
25 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate |
26 | Greater Philadelphia Health Action, Inc., on the 40th |
27 | anniversary of its founding. |
