                                     AN ACT

     1  Providing a toll-free number for individuals to use in order to
     2     provide information to the Pennsylvania State Police
     3     regarding evidence of drug abuse.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6  Section 1.  Short title.
     7     This act shall be known and may be cited as the Drug Abuse
     8  Hotline Act.
     9  Section 2.  Creation of hotline.
    10     (a)  Authorization.--The Commissioner of the Pennsylvania
    11  State Police is authorized and shall create a telecommunications
    12  service and support function providing a toll-free telephone
    13  number for Statewide use. This toll-free number is to be used by


     1  individuals to report information to the State Police regarding
     2  evidence of drug abuse.
     3     (b)  Definition.--For purposes of this act, the term "drug"
     4  shall have the meaning given to that term in the act of April
     5  14, 1972 (P.L.233, No.64), known as The Controlled Substance,
     6  Drug, Device and Cosmetic Act.
     7  Section 3.  Privacy.
     8     The identity of individuals who use the toll-free number
     9  created by this act and the information they provide shall
    10  remain confidential. No individual, corporation or court of law
    11  shall have access to this confidential information.
    12  Section 4.  Effective date.
    13     This act shall take effect in 60 days.
