        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MAY 12, 2008

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing the week of May 10 through 18, 2008, as "National
     2     Tourism Week" and May 14, 2008, as "Tourism Day" in
     3     Pennsylvania.

     4     WHEREAS, The week of May 10 through 18, 2008, has been
     5  selected as "National Tourism Week"; and
     6     WHEREAS, "National Tourism Week" was established in 1983 when
     7  the Congress of the United States passed a joint resolution
     8  designating a week in May 1984 as "National Tourism Week," and,
     9  in a White House ceremony, President Ronald Reagan signed a
    10  Presidential Proclamation urging citizens to observe the week
    11  with appropriate ceremonies and activities; and
    12     WHEREAS, Tourism is Pennsylvania's second-largest industry


     1  and a major contributor to the economy of this Commonwealth,
     2  providing approximately $27 billion in visitor spending and more
     3  than 600,000 jobs; and
     4     WHEREAS, Almost 140 million people visit Pennsylvania
     5  annually for business and leisure; and
     6     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is the fourth-most-visited state in the
     7  United States; therefore be it
     8     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
     9  week of May 10 through 18, 2008, as "National Tourism Week" and
    10  May 14, 2008, as "Tourism Day" in Pennsylvania.
