INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, JUNE 6, 2008
A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing June 24, 2008, as "Craniofacial Awareness Day" in 2 Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, A craniofacial condition is one that involves the 4 head and neck and results from abnormal growth patterns in the 5 bones of the face and skull, causing moderate or severe 6 disfigurement; and 7 WHEREAS, Children and adults can also develop craniofacial 8 conditions through trauma and disease; and 9 WHEREAS, Early diagnosis and surgical intervention minimize 10 potential problems associated with craniofacial conditions; and 11 WHEREAS, Surgical correction can improve appearance as well 12 as facial function while easing the emotional stress for the 13 child and family; and
1 WHEREAS, Craniofacial surgery encompasses a broad spectrum of 2 reconstructive procedures aimed at correcting differences of the 3 cranium and face; and 4 WHEREAS, Corrective surgeries address craniofacial conditions 5 associated with birth defects, trauma and tumors; and 6 WHEREAS, Correcting facial differences improves self-esteem 7 and confidence, allowing affected individuals a fuller, happier 8 and more productive life; and 9 WHEREAS, Over the past three decades, the field of 10 craniofacial surgery has seen major advancements in treating 11 facial differences; and 12 WHEREAS, Increasing public awareness, acceptance and the 13 improving treatment of craniofacial differences offer hope and a 14 better future to affected individuals; therefore be it 15 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize June 16 24, 2008, as "Craniofacial Awareness Day" in Pennsylvania to 17 encourage all citizens to become better informed of craniofacial 18 conditions and advances in medical treatment.
