                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
     2     act relating to the public school system, including certain
     3     provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
     4     schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
     5     laws relating thereto," providing payment for substitute
     6     teachers.

     7     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     8  hereby enacts as follows:
     9     Section 1.  Section 1148 of the act of March 10, 1949
    10  (P.L.30, No.14), known as the Public School Code of 1949,
    11  amended October 20, 1988 (P.L.827, No.110), is amended to read:
    12     Section 1148.  Substitute Teachers.--Substitutes who are
    13  placed in a position and give instruction in the same subjects
    14  or to the same students for more than three (3) months shall be
    15  paid not less than the minimum salary provided for by section
    16  [1142, or in the event they] 1142.1(a) or ninety per centum
    17  (90%) of the amount provided for by section 1142.1(b), whichever
    18  is greater. All other substitutes shall be paid not less than


     1  sixty per centum (60%) of the minimum salary provided for by
     2  section 1142.1(a). In the event the substitutes are employed for
     3  less than a full school year, they shall be paid the
     4  proportionate part of such minimum salary equal to the
     5  proportionate part of the school year during which they were
     6  employed, arrived at by dividing the number of days during which
     7  a substitute was employed by the total number of days the
     8  schools of the district were in session during the school year.
     9     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
