A RESOLUTION

 

1Honoring the Honorable Judge Jacquelyn Frazier-Lyde on her
2induction to the Pennsylvania Boxing Hall of Fame as the
3first-ever female inductee.

4WHEREAS, On February 17, 2014, the Pennsylvania Boxing Hall
5of Fame announced that its 2014 inductees would include the
6Honorable Judge Jacquelyn Frazier-Lyde, earning her the
7distinction of being the first female honoree in the
8organization's nearly 50-year history; and

9WHEREAS, Under the boxing moniker of "Sister Smoke," Ms.
10Frazier-Lyde began her boxing career on February 6, 2000, at the
11Cultural Center located in Scranton, Pennsylvania; and

12WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Ms. Frazier-Lyde worked hard
13to gain the skill, experience and expertise necessary to earn
14the legitimate respect of her peers in this largely male-
15dominated sport; and

16WHEREAS, Throughout her career, she amassed an overall record

1of 13 wins, 9 knockouts, 1 loss and 1 draw, and captured three
2championships in three different weight classes, the Women's
3International Boxing Federation Intercontinental Super
4Middleweight title, the Global Boxing Union 168 lb. title and
5the UBA World Heavyweight title; and

6WHEREAS, Ms. Frazier-Lyde's most celebrated and challenging
7match occurred in 2001, widely known as the "March to Destiny,"
8paired her against Laila Ali, the daughter of boxing great
9Muhammad Ali, recreating the rivalry once shared between their
10respective fathers in the boxing ring; and

11WHEREAS, No stranger to achieving notable milestones in her
12life, in 2008, Jacquelyn Frazier-Lyde, as a successful litigator
13with a thriving personal practice, Frazier-Lyde and Associates,
14LLC, was elected to the Philadelphia Municipal Court; and

15WHEREAS, Ms. Frazier-Lyde has earned the distinction of
16joining both her father, "Smokin'" Joe Frazier and her brother,
17Marvis Frazier, as a member of the Pennsylvania Boxing Hall of
18Fame; and

19WHEREAS, The Honorable Judge Jacquelyn Frazier-Lyde has
20established herself as a tenacious fighter in both the boxing
21ring and within Philadelphia's judicial system; therefore be it

22RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the
23distinguished life and career of the Honorable Judge Jacquelyn
24Frazier-Lyde and extend its heartfelt congratulations to Judge
25Frazier-Lyde on her induction to the Pennsylvania Boxing Hall of
26Fame as the first-ever female inductee.
