A RESOLUTION

Designating the month of October 2012 as "Agent Orange

2

Recognition Month" in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, From 1962 to 1975, American military personnel were

4

subject to deadly exposure by the Federal Government's use of

5

more than 19 million gallons of various herbicide combinations,

6

the most common being Agent Orange; and

7

WHEREAS, Agent Orange was sprayed throughout South Vietnam,

8

Laos and Cambodia in efforts to combat the enemy and has had

9

horrible consequences for United States servicemen who came into

10

contact with the herbicide; and

11

WHEREAS, Thousands of Vietnam War veterans have died from

12

being exposed to the dangerous dioxin, and thousands more have

suffered from health disorders since their time served in the

2

Vietnam War; and

3

WHEREAS, Veterans living with these health problems from

4

Agent Orange also live with the fact that there is genetic

5

damage caused by Agent Orange, which may be handed down through

6

generations; and

7

WHEREAS, Approximately 498,000 men and women served from this

8

Commonwealth during the Vietnam War era, with an estimated

9

172,000 of whom served directly in the war; and

10

WHEREAS, The Agent Orange Act of 1991 recognized the toxic

11

effects of Agent Orange on Vietnam veterans and has provided

12

complete medical coverage for those veterans who served in the

13

Vietnam War and for the children of veterans who were impacted

14

from these harmful herbicides; therefore be it

15

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the

16

month of October 2012 as "Agent Orange Recognition Month" in

17

Pennsylvania in order to honor the veterans who served and to

18

bring awareness to the issue so that our government can better

19

serve these heroic veterans.
