A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing the month of October 2004 as "Breast Cancer 2 Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Women's health is essential to the health of our 4 families, our communities and our society; and 5 WHEREAS, Breast cancer strikes one in every nine women in the 6 United States; and 7 WHEREAS, In 2004 more than 270,000 women nationwide are 8 expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer, and 40,000 women 9 will die from the disease; and 10 WHEREAS, Early detection can give women a five-year survival 11 rate of 97%; and 12 WHEREAS, Clinical breast examinations, regular mammograms and
1 breast self-examinations are the best means of detecting breast 2 cancer; and 3 WHEREAS, Throughout the United States and this Commonwealth, 4 the American Cancer Society, the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer 5 Coalition and other national, State and local organizations are 6 working to raise funds, increase public awareness and support 7 women with breast cancer; therefore be it 8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the 9 month of October 2004 as "Breast Cancer Awareness Month" in 10 Pennsylvania, applaud the thousands of professionals and 11 volunteers in the fight against breast cancer and encourage all 12 women to access screening services for early detection.
