        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           SEPTEMBER 18, 2008

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Congratulating the Mansfield University Concert Choir and The
     2     Mansfieldians for winning world championship gold medals at
     3     the World Choir Games in Graz, Austria, July 9 through 19,
     4     2008.

     5     WHEREAS, The Mansfield University Concert Choir and The
     6  Mansfieldians won preliminary and world championship gold medals
     7  at the World Choir Games held in Graz, Austria, July 9 through
     8  19, 2008; and
     9     WHEREAS, The concert choir, under the direction of Peggy
    10  Dettwiler, took the world championship gold medal in the
    11  spiritual and gospel open category; and
    12     WHEREAS, The Mansfieldians, a select 12-member ensemble of
    13  concert choir members directed by Sheryl Monkelien, took its
    14  world championship gold medal in the jazz vocal ensemble a
    15  cappella category; and

     1     WHEREAS, The theme of this year's games, "Singing Together
     2  Brings Nations Together," aptly described the competition, as it
     3  brought together 20,000 singers and 441 choirs from 93
     4  countries; and
     5     WHEREAS, The scope of this competition emphasizes the
     6  excellent accomplishments of Mansfield University's concert
     7  choir and select vocal ensemble; therefore be it
     8     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate the
     9  Mansfield University Concert Choir and The Mansfieldians for
    10  winning world championship gold medals at the World Choir Games
    11  in Graz, Austria, July 9 through 19, 2008.
