A RESOLUTION

 

1Commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Old Home Week
2celebration of the Borough of Catasauqua, Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, Old Home Week was a community event that originated
4in the northeastern region of the United States around the turn
5of the 20th century which encouraged expatriates to return to
6visit relatives and old friends; and

7WHEREAS, Catasauqua's first Old Home Week celebration was
8held for seven days, starting on Sunday, June 28, 1914, and
9concluding on Saturday, July 4, 1914; and

10WHEREAS, Catasauqua's first Old Home Week was planned as a
11reunion of families and friends, a celebration of the 75th
12anniversary of the Crane Iron Works and a recognition of the
13town's good fortune; and

14WHEREAS, The 1914 Old Home Week celebration included daily
15themes featuring churches, schools, fraternal organizations,

1civic organizations, fire companies and other local entities;
2and

3WHEREAS, The residents of Catasauqua, Pennsylvania, will
4observe the 100th anniversary of the Old Home Week celebration
5from June 27 through July 6, 2014; and

6WHEREAS, This year's celebration will feature many events,
7focusing on Catasauqua's history and will recognize the
8potential for the borough's future; therefore be it

9RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commemorate the
10100th anniversary of the Old Home Week celebration of the
11Borough of Catasauqua, Pennsylvania.
