                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian
     2     Revolution.

     3     WHEREAS, In October 1956, Hungarians who were suffering under
     4  communist dictatorship and Soviet military occupation rose up
     5  for freedom and independence in what has been heralded as one of
     6  the greatest historic events of the 20th century; and
     7     WHEREAS, The event became known as the 1956 Hungarian
     8  Revolution; and
     9     WHEREAS, The 1956 Hungarian Revolution changed the world by
    10  sowing the seeds of the Prague Spring, Polish Solidarity, the
    11  demolition of the Berlin Wall, the formation of democratic
    12  governments in Central and Eastern Europe and the disintegration
    13  of the Soviet Union; and
    14     WHEREAS, This year marks the 50th anniversary of the 1956
    15  Hungarian Revolution, and the anniversary is being celebrated
    16  throughout the world; therefore be it
    17     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commemorate the


     1  50th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution.
