HOUSE BILL

        AS AMENDED ON THIRD CONSIDERATION, HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
           MAY 5, 1997

                                     AN ACT

     1  Designating a section of U.S. Route 15 in Union County,
     2     Pennsylvania, as the Donald L. Heiter Memorial Highway; AND    <--
     3     DESIGNATING A SECTION OF THE SOUTHERN TIER EXPRESSWAY IN ERIE
     4     COUNTY AS THE FOREST W. HOPKINS MEMORIAL HIGHWAY.

     5     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     6  hereby enacts as follows:
     7  Section 1.  DONALD L. HEITER MEMORIAL HIGHWAY.                    <--
     8     (A)  HIGHWAY DESIGNATION.--That section of U.S. Route 15 in
     9  Union County, beginning at the Lewisburg Borough and East
    10  Buffalo Township line near Limestone Run, and proceeding north
    11  to the Lewisburg Borough and Kelly Township line near Buffalo
    12  Creek, is hereby designated and shall be known as the Donald L.
    13  Heiter Memorial Highway.
    14     Section 2. (B)  MARKERS.--The Department of Transportation     <--
    15  shall erect and maintain road signs, which shall display the
    16  name of Donald L. Heiter Memorial Highway, at the beginning and
    17  the end of the section of the highway designated in section 1.
    18  SECTION 2.  FOREST W. HOPKINS MEMORIAL HIGHWAY.                   <--

     1     (A)  HIGHWAY DESIGNATION.--THE EIGHT-MILE SEGMENT OF ROUTE 17
     2  IN ERIE COUNTY, FROM GREENFIELD TOWNSHIP TO THE NEW YORK STATE
     3  LINE, IS HEREBY DESIGNATED AND SHALL BE KNOWN AS THE FOREST W.
     4  HOPKINS MEMORIAL HIGHWAY.
     5     (B)  HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE.--FOREST W. HOPKINS WAS A
     6  COMMITTED COMMUNITY SERVANT, WHO SERVED WITH DISTINCTION AS A
     7  STATE REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE FOURTH LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT FROM
     8  1967 TO 1978. MR. HOPKINS DIED IN OFFICE IN 1978.
     9     (C)  MARKERS.--WITHIN 60 DAYS OF COMPLETION OF CONSTRUCTION
    10  OF THE HIGHWAY SEGMENT DESCRIBED IN SUBSECTION (A), THE
    11  DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION SHALL ERECT AND MAINTAIN ROAD SIGNS
    12  DISPLAYING THE DESIGNATION "FOREST W. HOPKINS MEMORIAL HIGHWAY,"
    13  AT THE BEGINNING AND END OF THE HIGHWAY SEGMENT.
    14     Section 3.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
