A RESOLUTION

Recognizing September 11, 2010, as "Flight 93 Day in

2

Pennsylvania" to commemorate the tragic events of September

3

11, 2001.

4

WHEREAS, There can be no greater tragedy than the intentional

5

taking of innocent lives; and

6

WHEREAS, On September 11, 2001, Al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked

7

and intentionally flew two planes into the twin towers of the

8

World Trade Center in Manhattan, New York City, and hijacked and

9

crashed a third aircraft into the United States Department of

Defense headquarters at the Pentagon in Arlington County,

2

Virginia; and

3

WHEREAS, The first battle of the War on Terrorism took place

4

in the skies over Somerset County, Pennsylvania, and was

5

ultimately won by the heroism of the passengers aboard United

6

Airlines Flight 93 who courageously fought to regain control of

7

the plane and prevented additional death and destruction; and

8

WHEREAS, These attacks claimed nearly 3,000 innocent lives,

9

becoming the most devastating attack on American soil in our

10

231-year history; and

11

WHEREAS, Many individuals unselfishly gave their lives in

12

unyielding courage and sacrifice with the passenger resistance

13

that occurred on United Airlines Flight 93 in Somerset County,

14

Pennsylvania; and

15

WHEREAS, Their acts of courage and sacrifice for our country

16

are worthy of acknowledgment and commendation, and they shall

17

remain in our hearts and minds forever, their remembrance

18

continuing to be passed on to future generations; and

19

WHEREAS, September 11, 2010, marks the 9th anniversary of the

20

attacks, which should never be forgotten; therefore be it

21

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize

22

September 11 as "Flight 93 Day in Pennsylvania" in honor of

23

those persons who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001,

24

attacks, those individuals directly affected by the tragedy of

25

the attacks and those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our

26

country fighting the war on terrorism; and be it further

27

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives encourage all

28

schools, public offices and businesses to pause in a moment of

29

silence to reflect upon the tragedy and the sacrifices made on

30

September 11, 2001, and to further remember the families of

those persons who perished and all of our fellow citizens

affected by these tragic events.
