                                  A RESOLUTION

1 Urging the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board to close its stores
     2 on December 24 and December 31, 2006.

3 WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board currently
4 operates 643 liquor stores across this Commonwealth which
5 provide libations to residents across this Commonwealth; and
6 WHEREAS, Less than one-quarter of the Commonwealth's liquor
7 stores are open regularly on Sundays; and
8 WHEREAS, Both Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve fall on
     9 Sundays in 2006; and
10 WHEREAS, Keeping the 160 stores which normally operate Sunday
11 open on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve would place an
12 extraordinary burden on employees working in those stores, as
13 the shops would be unusually crowded and render clerks unable to
    14 meet customer needs; and
15 WHEREAS, It would be unfair to the employees working at these
16 160 stores to work on these holidays while the remaining

1 employees would be with their families; and
2 WHEREAS, The employees of all of the Commonwealth-operated
3 liquor stores deserve to spend Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve
     4 with their families; and
5 WHEREAS, The employees of all of the Commonwealth-operated
6 liquor stores would greatly appreciate the opportunity to attend
7 religious services held on these days; therefore be it
8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge the
9 Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board to close its stores on
    10 December 24 and December 31, 2006.
