AN ACT
1 Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
2 Statutes, providing for registration plates for volunteer
3 firefighters; and exempting active volunteer firefighters
4 from paying a fee for vehicle registration.
5 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
6 hereby enacts as follows:
7 Section 1. Title 75 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
8 Statutes is amended by adding a section to read:
9 § 1340.2. Volunteer firefighter plate.
10 Upon submission by a vehicle owner of information
11 satisfactory to the department that a motor vehicle is owned by
12 a volunteer firefighter, the department shall issue special
13 plates for the vehicle which shall have the same force and
14 effect as regular registration plates. The applicant shall
15 comply with all laws and regulations pertaining to registration.
16 No additional fee shall be charged by the department for
1 issuance of a volunteer firefighter registration plate. A
2 volunteer firefighter may not be issued a volunteer firefighter
3 registration plate for more than one vehicle.
4 Section 2. Section 1901(b) of Title 75 is amended to read:
5 § 1901. Exemption of entities and vehicles from fees.

7 (b) Title and registration fees.--No fee shall be charged
8 for titling or registration of any of the following:
9 (1) Buses registered by urban mass transportation
10 systems.
11 (2) Vehicles registered by volunteer fire, rescue and
12 ambulance associations.
13 (2.1) Vehicles owned by active volunteer firefighters,
14 provided that a firefighter is issued a volunteer firefighter
15 plate under section 1340.2 (relating to volunteer firefighter
16 plate) for use on the vehicle. A firefighter may not register
17 more than one vehicle under this paragraph.
18 (3) Vehicles registered by foreign nationals with the
19 rank of vice consul or higher assigned to a consulate in this
20 Commonwealth provided that citizens of the United States are
21 granted reciprocal exemptions.
22 (4) Vehicles of totally disabled veterans whose
23 disability is certified by the service unit of the armed
24 forces in which the veterans served or by the United States
25 Veterans' Administration as service-connected.
26 (5) Vehicles on loan or transferred to a nonprofit
27 corporation by the United States Department of Defense or the
28 United States General Services Administration and used
29 exclusively for leasing to political subdivisions, State
30 agencies and the Federal Government. Such vehicles shall be

1 issued the same kind of registration plates as are issued to
2 vehicles registered by political subdivisions.
