A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of October 2020 as "Distracted Driving
Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, On an average day, more than 700 crashes which
result in an injury involve distracted driving; and
WHEREAS, The economic toll of all motor vehicle crashes in
the United States exceeds $400 billion annually; and
WHEREAS, Talking into a mobile phone in hands-free mode,
texting and programming a dashboard infotainment system or GPS
device can divert an individual's attention away from driving
and result in physical or cognitive distraction; and
WHEREAS, Residents of this Commonwealth and all Americans
deserve to live in communities that promote safe driving
behaviors and healthy lifestyles; and
WHEREAS, Preventing distracted driving injuries and deaths
requires cooperation between all levels of government, employers
and the general public; and

WHEREAS, The National Safety Council works to promote
policies, practices and procedures leading to increased safety,
protection and health on roads and highways, as well as in
business and industry, in schools and colleges and in homes and
communities; and
WHEREAS, It is imperative that drivers focus attention on
motor vehicle injury risks and prevention; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
month of October 2020 as "Distracted Driving Awareness Month" in
Pennsylvania.
