A RESOLUTION
Urging Amtrak to redesignate the railroad station located at
2955 Market Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as the
"William H. Gray III 30th Street Station."
WHEREAS, From 1979 until 1991, William H. Gray III
represented Pennsylvania's second congressional district in the
United States House of Representatives; and
WHEREAS, For the final two years of his career in the
Congress of the United States, Mr. Gray served as the Majority
Whip; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Gray was the highest-ranking African-American
member of Congress, attaining distinction as the first African
American to rise to the third-ranking House position and to
chair the House Budget Committee; and
WHEREAS, In 1991, Mr. Gray resigned from Congress to become
the president and chief executive officer of the United Negro
College Fund; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Gray served the United Negro College Fund
through 2004, raising more than $2.3 billion during his tenure;

WHEREAS, Mr. Gray died on July 1, 2013, at 71 years of age;
and
WHEREAS, In the summer of 2014, Congress passed and the
President of the United States signed H.R. 4838, redesignating
the railroad station located at 2955 Market Street in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, commonly known as "30th Street
Station," as the "William H. Gray III 30th Street Station"; and
WHEREAS, Despite this redesignation under Public Law 113-158,
enacted more than two years ago, Amtrak has not officially
redesignated the station; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania urge Amtrak to redesignate the
railroad station located at 2955 Market Street in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, as the "William H. Gray III 30th Street Station";
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
Amtrak Corporate Headquarters, 60 Massachusetts Avenue NE,
Washington, DC, 20002.
