AN ACT 1 Amending Title 51 (Military Affairs) of the Pennsylvania 2 Consolidated Statutes, providing for extension of limitations 3 on student assistance grants. 4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 5 hereby enacts as follows: 6 Section 1. Section 3206 of Title 51 of the Pennsylvania 7 Consolidated Statutes is amended to read: 8 § 3206. Limitations. 9 (a) Time.--No member shall be eligible for full-time or 10 part-time student assistance grants or a combination thereof 11 under this chapter for a total of more than five academic years 12 or their equivalent as determined by the agency[.], except that, 13 for any member who served on active duty in a combat zone as
1 defined in section 7508 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 2 (Public Law 99-514, 26 U.S.C. § 1 et seq), eligibility shall be 3 extended for a period no less than one year and no more than one 4 additional month for each month or part of month of such 5 service. 6 (b) Active duty.--[No] Except as otherwise provided for in 7 subsection (c), no grant payments shall be made under this 8 chapter except during the eligible member's term of service as a 9 member in good standing of the Pennsylvania National Guard. 10 (c) Extension of payment period.--For eligible members who 11 were called or ordered to active Federal service or active State 12 duty under section 508 (relating to active State duty for 13 emergency) after September 11, 2001, the deadline for making 14 grant payments after the member is discharged or released under 15 honorable conditions from the Pennsylvania National Guard is 16 extended for a period of one additional month for each month or 17 part of month of such service. 18 Section 2.
