AN ACT
1Amending Title 66 (Public Utilities) of the Pennsylvania
2Consolidated Statutes, providing for whistle post signage.
3The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
4hereby enacts as follows:
5Section 1. Title 66 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
6Statutes is amended by adding a section to read:
7§ 2710. Whistle post signage.
8(a) Duty.--A public utility engaged in a railroad business
9shall place whistle post signs to the right of the main track in
10the direction of approach exactly one-quarter of a mile from the
11entrance to crossings to notify engineers or operators of
12locomotives who blow a whistle and ring a bell as the locomotive
13approaches the crossing as a warning to the public.
14(b) Signs.--The whistle post signs shall consist of a "W"
15identifiable on a square plate mounted on a post and shall be:
16(1) Visible to an engineer or operator of a locomotive
17within the cabin or caboose car.
18(2) Kept in good repair.
1(3) Replaced promptly when necessary.
2Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
