THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF PENNSYLVANIA


HOUSE BILL

                                     AN ACT

     1  Making an appropriation to The Pennsylvania State University for
     2     the operation of the successor to the Williamsport Area
     3     Community College.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  The sum of $8,887,000, or as much thereof as may
     7  be necessary, is hereby appropriated to The Pennsylvania State
     8  University for the fiscal year July 1, 1989, to June 30, 1990,
     9  for the operation of the successor to the Williamsport Area
    10  Community College, including Social Security payments.
    11     Section 2.  Payments on account of the appropriation provided
    12  in section 1 shall be made by the Secretary of Education in
    13  equal quarterly payments.
    14     Section 3.  In the event that the affiliation of the
    15  Williamsport Area Community College with The Pennsylvania State
    16  University does not occur, payments shall be made from this
    17  appropriation to the Williamsport Area Community College on the
    18  same basis as other community colleges under Article XIX-A of

     1  the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known as the Public
     2  School Code of 1949.
     3     Section 4.  The Pennsylvania State University shall provide
     4  such information as may be necessary to carry out the provisions
     5  of this act. The information shall be provided in such form and
     6  manner as the Department of Education shall prescribe. If the
     7  affiliation of the Williamsport Area Community College with The
     8  Pennsylvania State University does not take place, the
     9  Williamsport Area Community College shall provide the
    10  information as required by this section.
    11     Section 5.  This act shall take effect July 1, 1989, or
    12  immediately, whichever is later.
